The New England Patriots have made the playoffs 15 (78.94%) out of a possible 19 times this century. They missed the playoffs the first two years (1999-00 & 2000-01), which was Pete Carroll’s last year as head coach and Bill Belichick’s first.
The Patriots and Colts have as many or more playoff appearances this century then ten other NFL franchises. Seven franchises have as many or more playoff appearances this century than the Cardinals (10) have in their entire 98-year history.
Minnesota has the most playoff appearances this century (8) without a Super Bowl appearance, while the New York Jets have the most playoff wins (6) of any team without an appearance in the big game.
Best and worst performing playoff teams this century
Over the 19 playoffs that have taken place so far this century only four teams have won at least 60% of their games. At 73% the Patriots are out in front of everyone else. This is along with that fact that their 27 wins this century is more than all but four franchises (49ers, Cowboys, Packers, Steelers) have in their entire histories.
|Team||Playoff App||Record (%)|
|New England Patriots||15||27-10 (73%)|

|Cincinnati Bengals||7||0-7 (0%)|
|Detroit Lions||4||0-4 (0%)|
|Buffalo Bills||2||0-2 (0%)|
|Cleveland Browns||1||0-1 (0%)|
On the other end of the spectrum are the Bengals, who are 0-7 this century, making them one of four NFL franchises to have not won a playoff game this century. It has been 27 seasons since they won a playoff game, with the Lions (26), Bills (22) and Browns (20) right behind them. Meanwhile, the Chiefs have lost an NFL-record six straight playoff games at home.
Uncoincidentally, the four teams to have at least a 60% win rate in the playoffs are also the only ones to win at least two Super Bowls this century. New England has once again dominated in this area with eight (42.10%) of the AFC’s Super Bowl appearances and five (26.31%) of the league’s Super Bowl titles.
In fact, the top five AFC teams (Patriots, Steelers, Ravens, Colts, and Broncos) combined have 17 (89.47%) of the AFC’s 19 Super Bowl appearances. For contrast, the top five NFC teams (Giants, Seahawks, Eagles, Rams, Panthers) have 12 (63.15%) Super Bowl appearances between them.

Chicago has the least playoffs wins of any team to make a Super Bowl this century with only three.
