Battlefield: A Metacritic history

The first game in the Battlefield franchise, Battlefield 1942, came out back in 2002. Since then the franchise has grown to become one of the best-known in the FPS (First-Person Shooter) genre. Unlike its rival Call of Duty, the series has made its mark with larger maps, more open multiplayer gameplay and the use of vehicles.

Battlefield’s Metacritic history

Only 1 out of 14 (7.14%) games in the Battlefield franchise has an average Metacritic score over 90. Meanwhile, 10 of the 14 games (71.42%) have gotten an average score of at least an 80.

Avg score

I did not factor in Battlefield: Online or the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 versions of Battlefield: Hardline since they have no reviews on Metacritic. I also did not factor in the iOS reviews of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 into that game’s score.

To calculate the average critic score for a game I weighed the number of reviews. As an example, for Battlefield: Bad Company, I took the 70 Xbox 360 reviews and multiplied it by there average score of 83. I then did the same for the PlayStation 3 score. I then took both those numbers, added them together and divided it by the total number of critic scores to get the average score.
